Alice Alice is the mother of the puppies on the home page. Alice is unique and funny. She loves to chase lights and shadows. She will sit under my desk waiting for me to move so that the reflected light from my chair moves across the floor and she dives for it. She will do this for hours!!!! Alice was 1/2 of a backyard breeders pair.
Her hubby, Jake, went on to Westie Rescue in Cinncinnati OH, but when it was verified that Alice was pregnant we decided it was best not to move her at that time. Alice delivered and cared for four beautiful puppies on Nov 6th. It was not her first litter and she was a pro at the whole thing. I had not had a dog have puppies in my home for over thirty years and was a wreck. Alice was adamant when the puppies were between 5 and 6 weeks old that she was done nursing!!! I think this is about the time that they started developing their teeth. Puppies were getting nipped and crying all the time. So since the pups were eating well we moved them into another home and Alice became free again. She was spayed had all of her shots and put up for adoption. A wonderful family wanted her and one of her puppies and she went home with them. Tragedy struck, however, and when they had her checked by their vet she came up heart worm positive. I was shocked and dumbfounded. She had a test when she came into rescue. We always test first and with these dogs particularly because I knew the "breeder" had left them outside all summer. The vet educated me that the first test can be negative if they are recently infected. A learning experience for me. So Alice came back here and the lovely family was devistated. They had already fallen in love with her. We had one more male puppy and offered them the option of taking him. They agreed and they now have Elvis and Geordie in their home and are avid Westie fans. Alice went through the heart worm treatment, which is very painful for the dog, with flying colors and great fortitude. We now are waiting the required 4 months at which time the vet will re-examine and pronounce her cured and she will be up for adoption again. Contact bellwoodrescue@sbcglobal.net
